Slamdance and the NYC DGA present an evening of films by New York directors, culled from the 2007 Slamdance Film Festival. Directors will be in attendance. Admission is FREE After party at LIT LOUNGE to follow THE TWO SHORTS: The Listening Dead Directed by Phil Mucci, USA (14 min) A Monarch Cage (Jaula del Monarca) Directed by Paul Di Palma, USA/Mexico (13 min) AND THE SHORT FEATURE: The Path of Most Resistance Directed by Peter Kelley USA (50 min) It's New Year's Eve in New York City and Tom McKenna is alone. But solitude is an essential part of Tom's secretive profession-- a profession he guards even at the expense of love, even on New Year's Eve. But this New Year's Eve, which promises to be the most important night of his life, Tom is confronted with a complication he couldn't have anticipated, and presented with a choice that could change his life forever. Shot in and around New York City, this "unique gem" of a film begins as a lush, quiet observation of urban solitude, but transforms into an utterly surprising and unforgettable fairy tale that reaffirms life's ability, at the unlikeliest of moments, to surprise and reawaken the heart. The film stars Tim Rouhana and Spencer Grammer, and features Tamara Scott, Shawn Fitzgibbons, Amy Shea, Jack Freimann, gerard Urcioli, Nikki Walker, and Steve Belanger.

Description:

Spanish writer Arturo Perez-Reverte has generated an eager international readership for his erudite thrillers which include Club Dumas (my favorite novel in the last ten years) and the recent Queen of the South. Alatriste is based on an earlier five-novel sequence (though each title was a phenomenal best-seller in Spain, only the first has been translated and released stateside) featuring swordsman-for-hire Diego Alatriste and set in Spain's quickly tarnishing seventeenth-century Golden Age. Captain Alatriste, a veteran of Spain's Flemish wars, deploys his sword for anyone who will pay, which inevitably leads him into some dicey situations. Featuring Viggo Mortensen (speaking Spanish) as the swashbuckling title character, Alatriste was released abroad in late 2006 to rave reviews and box office success, but has yet to find US distribution. Again, all Raconteur in-store events are FREE! (unless otherwise noted) and include complimentary wine (provided by Silver Decoy, recently selected as the finest winery in NJ).
