BETA: concept below under development
thumb up good idea or thumb down trash? add thoughts/comments below, check back for updates

Researching setting up a way for casting directors, coaches, etc to view a members full profile (e.g., all work, videos/demo reels, blogs, etc) and drop notes/feedback to members to improve overall communication and organization during the casting process. Using it might go something like this:
  1. print Print
CastingNotes™ member prints out Feedback cards at home (MS Word template example below)

  2. audition Attend
member attends audition, callback, class, one-on-one, etc

  3. attach Attach
member attaches free feedback CastingNotes™ biz-card (below) to their headshot or resume

  4. web link Feedback
casting/producer visits URL on card to post their comments (see example comments at bottom of this project)— what they'd like to see for wardrobe or character suggestions on callback, character tips or adjustments before filming, etc. note the project page is always linked to a performer's full profile, so contacting them directly or viewing an update of all their recent work is a click away.

Details
Basically the proposal is that all casting info... including past Roles, original character breakdowns, member's videos/demo reels, personal notes, whom they worked with, new!private messages, and notes from casting... for a member's career would be store in one place and linked to their user profile (now supporting real names) to improve organization, communication, and success for both performers and casting.

So CastingNotes™ becomes bidirectional (<=> data from performer and feedback/suggestions from industry) to help both casting and performers get the most out of their time/work together. might also tie into acting/performer classes, where coaches can give feedback for individual performers or prep tips for their next class session(s).

But this idea needs more feedback from industry to know for sure, so have to take a poll to see if this is better for casting than e-mailing each performer... i would think so because:
  • CastingNotes™ is available from any computer, not just their desktop, so it's much more accessible,
  • it's much more organized since all notes are in one place and sharable by an entire team (like between a CD and an assistant for the same project) at the same time vs. on different computers,
  • since each performer creates their own node # for each particular project they work, casting can give individual feedback to many performers even if they're all working on the same project
To-Do
Stuff to do for this concept:
  • Brainstorm w/ directors, producers, and other industry to see what "production journal/book" features are useful to them and can be incorporated here.
  • Get feedback from performers on how they'd feel about including Feedback cards, what features might help them in the casting process, etc.
Thoughts? post 'em in comments below.

Received feedback that, due to CD/producer natural time constraints, maybe the focus of this should initially be on (a) already cast performers (vs. callbacks, etc) and (b) more of a “production book” style. Not exactly sure what the latter means; doing more research and will update.
