Hey beaner, been looking into that (but non-musical, garage band stuff) myself; don’t have any suggestions as yet but maybe one of our singing members will have ideas and meanwhile I’ll give a shout out to some acting coaches to see what they recommend.

no singing recs yet, but just got the following dialect/voice recommendation through an acting teacher… actually another of her students recommendation… for Deena Kaye. Don’t have a website for her, but PM me for her # and she also might be the same author listed on Amazon here.

btw if anyone else has additional recommendations/suggestions please feel free to post ‘em in the comments below so other members can check them out as well.

Hi folks,

I’ve been studying for a few months now with Dan Radzikowski, young but well educated in several techniques and instructs well. While I try to keep my voice lessons as voice lessons and coaching as coaching, Dan is very flexible so when I have a last minute audition and need to put a song on its feet, he easily shifts into coaching mode and accomodates me. Likewise, he is excellent at working new points in lessons into my rep so the relevance is obvious and immediate. He’s quite reasonable and I’m pleased to recommend him. Please feel free to PM me for more information, I’m starting to sound like a shill, but I never mind discussing a good thing. If you want straight voice coaching, I can make a few recommendations also.

Good luck! Thanks for the heads up on the post, Kris, sorry I missed it.
Joe

thanks Beaner!:) Jane responded with some really great advice, below:

My name is Jane Brockman and I have been working in musicals here in NYC for 18 years and I teach voice sometimes, but not on a regular basis as I often leave town to perform. I have a couple of WONDERFUL suggestions for you.
Marianne Challis studio. Marianne is FABULOUS, but is too full to take on new students I think. What you can do though is set up an appt. with her to do what she calls a “diagnostic”. She will run through a lesson with you and match you to one of her teachers. She has three or four teachers who teach her technique. They are all great and are less expensive than she is. The reason I like her and her technique so much is that it is based in healthy speech technique. It is an extremely healthy way to sing. Marianne is also a very accomplished cabaret performer.
Her email is: challisvoice@aol.com. When you email her ask about the diagnostic.

Joan Barber :
Joan is a great gal who teaches a very similar technique as Marianne, but in a slightly different way. She works from her home and is a really great person. She has been teaching for a very long time and has also been singing in Broadway musicals for EVER! Joan’s email: jsingah@mac.com

Jeannie Lehman: Jeannie was the last Mrs. Potts on B’way. She also has been teaching forever. I do not know her technique but everyone who goes to her LOVES her. She is the warmest woman on the face of the planet!!! She also teaches at NYU - I do not know if she is taking new students - but it’s worth investigating.
Jeannie’s email : lehfrenchs@aol.com.

These three will make sure you are singing healthfully AND achieving what you want to vocally.
Hope that helps -
Jane Brockman
